One major flaw that we Americans have is selective memory loss. Or lack of interest in our history, especially when it is negative. The situation in Arizona and the rest of the country for that matter is nothing new.
From the plight of the American Indian to the slavery issue. Race has always been at the fore front of American ethics. But when it comes to immigration this is definitely nothing new, history 101 shows us that almost every nationality has faced racial profiling. Example in 1882 The Chinese Exclusion Act was passed by the US Congress to stop immigration from China due the cheap Chinese labor complaint. The law was later extended by the Geary Act in 1892. The Japanese felt similar pangs, in 1907 when The Gentleman’s Agreement Act was made between America & Japan to stop issuing passports, and the Immigration Act , also in 1907 allowed the President to forbid immigrants to enter the US if he determined it would be detrimental to the labor force. The Immigration Act of 1924 further banned immigration from Japan. After 1941 Japanese were gathered and arrested In 1942 Japanese were placed in internment camps along the West Coast based on Executive Order 9066. In 1941 Italians lived under strict curfews and some imprisoned. A cartoon poster displayed “Don’t Speak the Enemy’s Language Speak American, so Italians couldn’t even speak their own language in public!
So now in we have the Latino immigration explosion with Spanish-speaking illegal immigrants from several different countries (not just Mexico), plus other illegals lining our streets with day workers and those working under the table. This is hurting the American economy. These people are not paying taxes nor are their employers. At a time when so many American’s are out of work these jobs should be made available to the unemployed! Illegal immigration is a drain on tax payers when these people get aide and services they don’t pay for! To ask a person for identification is not racial profiling. It is a necessity. It is the same as a police officer stopping a person to see their license and registration! If you have the requested documentation what is the problem?
Last but not least, this country was made on the backs of “immigrants” regardless of where they came from or how they got here! They took the time to fight for and earn citizenship. They learned to speak the language of the United States, ENGLISH!!! Have you ever picked up a phone and heard press 2 for Italian? Why not? There are over 26 million Italian-Americans which makes them the fifth largest ethnic group in the US! Point being, our great grand, grand and in some cases even our parents had to over come adverse situations but they learned the language and got naturalized and paid their way! Speaking Spanish is not an American issue and shouldn’t be used as a crutch. Stop the liberal BS and either abide by the laws of this country or go back home!
